On April 22, the 22 meter long self-propelled barge Niels suffered water ingress on the Maas river near Linne, Netherlands. The vessel suffered water ingress in the cargo hold and was in danger of sinking. The Niels approached the shore where local fire brigade delivered a dewatering pump. The pump was able to keep the vessel afloat until additional pumps were able to remove the water from the hold.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 109 meter long, 2858 dwt oil tanker Palflot 2 caught fire in the Caspian Sea near Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan.  The Palflot 2 was en route to Turkmenbashi in ballast when the fire broke out on deck.  The blaze quickly engulfed the vessel’s superstructure killing one crewman. The remaining 10 persons on board were later rescued by a nearby cargo vessel. Reports stated the vessel was adrift and Russian aircraft were to be dispatched to extinguish the fire.

The 247 meter long, 89846 dwt bulk carrier Iron Destiny allided with a pier near Odessa, Ukraine. The Iron Destiny was entering the port in strong winds when it bumped into the pier.  The bulk carrier suffered only dents and scratches, but 5 meters of the pier was damaged.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. Reports state the vessel refused additional assistance even with the high winds.
