Freighter Verona aground

The 2735 dwt freighter Verona went aground while moored in the port of Rostock, Germany.   Strong winds had blown the vessel into shallower waters.   A tug was able to pull free the vessel and it now moored safely in basin B of the port.  No reports of damage or any pollution being released.

Crane Vessel Explodes

The 1392 dwt crane vessel Shirvan caught fire after an explosion in it’s forepeak while at anchor in Baku BayAzerbaijan.   Five workers were injured and 1 perished in hospital.  The fire was put out, but no reports to the extent of the damage to the Shirvan.  The cause of the explosion was to improper safety while welding.

The 37,600 dwt bulk freighter Ramsi collided and sank 2 lighters.   The lighters, Titu-21 and Titu-22, were loaded with clinker off Kutubdia Lighthouse, Chittagong, Bangladesh when the collision occurred.   Reports state that 7 of the 28 crewmen onboard both lighters are still missing.     The cause of the accident was poor visibility due to the fog and darkness.

Another lighter, Titu-16 was in collision with the motor vessel Hamsir in the Kutubdia Channel, Bangladesh.   The Titu-16 was damaged, but no reports of injuries to the crewmen.   Authorities are installing additional buoys to ease movement of vessels through the channel.
