Nadezhda Grounded

Nadezhda Grounded

The 1745 dwt vessel Nadezhda struck bottom near the 1331 kilometer mark on the White-Baltic Canal.   The Nadezhda suffered damage to it’s hull with a hole in one of the ballast tanks.   It is proceeding under its own power to Belomorsk for inspection and repair.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Emily Lisa Ablaze

The 43 foot fishing vessel Emily Lisa caught fire while fishing south of Halifax.   The four crew on board were able to send out a mayday before abandoning  ship.   All four men escaped into a life raft.   The Coast Guard disptached an aircraft and helicopter to the scene.  The vessel Chempran Sea was first to reach the scene and rescued the crew.   All four men were uninjured and were being transported to Sydney, Nova Scotia.   The cause of the fire was not yet reported.
