Norvind Again

The 107 meter long, 5916 dwt freighter Norvind went aground at the entrance to Kragerø, Norway.  The freighter had run aground into the shallows due to a navigation error.  The Norvind was able to refloat itself without assistance and docked later the same day.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.  Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.  Initial reports state that the master and chief mate were tested for alcohol and the results were negative.  The Norvind has had two prior incidents in 2011.

Hoek van Holland Collision

Hoek van Holland Collision

The 97 meter long suction dredge Crestway collided with the sailboat Rio Scoe off the Hoek van Holland, Netherlands.   The sailboat was dis-masted.  No one was injured on either vessel.  The KNRM lifeboat was dispatched to the scene and took the sailboat under tow back to Harbor Mountain.  The water police are conducting an investigation into the incident.  No reports of pollution being released.

Tanker Aground

Tanker Aground

The 250 meter long, 105656 dwt tanker Alfa Italia went aground on the Wester Scheldt near Nauw van Bath, Netherlands.  The Alfa Italia was proceeding from Hound Point to Antwerp went it went aground at low tide.  Five tugs were dispatched to the scene and were able to refloat the tanker the same day.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
