En Avant

The 16 meter long tugboat En Avant sank while moored on the Bijlandsch Kanaal at Millingen, Netherlands.   The vessel sank leaving only the top of the upper deck exposed.  No one was on board at the time of the sinking.   Authorities placed booms around the vessel to contain any pollution released.   The cause of the sinking was not reported.

Symphony

Symphony

The 99 meter long, 3208 dwt freighter Symphony loaded with a cargo of timber went aground off  Marstal, Denmark.   The vessel had a pilot on board when it struck a sandbar.   The vessel was able to free itself later the same day.   The Symphony contacted authorities who allowed the freighter to proceed to the port of Soby where the hull will be inspected by divers.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.

Star Polaris

Star Polaris

The 292 meter long, 195546 dwt bulk freighter Star Polaris went aground in the Black Sea at Eregli, Turkey.   The freighter had left Rotterdam with 169,000 tons of iron pellets arrived at Eregli when it struck bottom in the harbour.   The freighter suffered only minor damage.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
