Alaca 1

Alaca 1

The 88 meter long, 2734 dwt freighter Alaca 1 was crushed by ice in the Azov Sea near Kirillovka.   The Alaca 1 became stuck in the ice while heading to Rostov-on-Don from Kerch and requested assistance from an icebreaker.   While waiting for the icebreaker, the ice punctured the hull allowing water ingress.   The crew of 12 on board abandoned the vessel and went onto the ice.   When contact was lost with the Alaca 1, authorities dispatched a helicopter to the scene.   The helicopter found the men and were able to safely rescue them.   The crew were taken to Simferopol, Ukraine.   No reports of injuries.   The Alaca 1 was lasted reported drifting with the ice.   Authorities are not certain if the freighter will roll over and sink or remain afloat.    No details about the cargo or the amount of fuel on board.

Smaragd

Smaragd

The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Smaragd became disabled while on the Weser River near Brake, Germany.   The Smaragd had suffered water ingress and immediately requested assistance.   The local fire fighters brought a dewatering pump to the vessel.   Reports state the cause of the flooding might have caused by a torn valve or a weld that failed due to the extreme cold.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Dolphin 7

Dolphin 7

 

The 114 meter long, 3134 dwt freighter Dolphin 7 collided with the 77 meter long, 372 dwt ice breaker tug Kapitan Demidov in the Kerch Strait.   The Kapitan Demidov slowed as it was breaking a passage through the ice, but the Dolphin 7 was too close and struck the icebreaker’s stern.   The Dolphin 7 bow was damaged with a small hole above the waterline.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
