Drechtborg

Drechtborg

The 133 meter long, 8867 dwt freighter Drechtborg became disabled in the Kiel Canal at Brunsbuettel, Germany.  The Drechtborg’s propeller had fouled by a rope requiring the vessel to berth at Brunsbuettel.  The crew was able clear the rope and the vessel was able to continue on its journey.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Love Boat Scrapped!

Love Boat Scrapped!

The 171 meter long cruise ship Pacific has been sold to be scrapped in Turkey.  Built in 1971, the vessel appeared on the US sitcom the Love boat between 1977 to 1986 while being owned by Princess Cruises.  The vessel was sold in 2002 and renamed the Pacific.

Robbenzand

Robbenzand

The 85 meter long dredger Robbenzand allided with a bridge on the  Noordhollands Canal near Burgervlotbrug, Netherlands.   The dredger had lost steering and veered into the side of the bridge.   No reports of injuries.  Damage to the bridge will require several months of repair.  An investigation showed that the Robbenzand had a broken control rod causing the steering failure.
