English Channel Collision

The 151 meter long, 10113 dwt reefer Spring Bok collided in heavy fog with the 88 meter long, 3590 dwt LPG tanker Gas Arctic.   The Spring Bok struck the stern of the Gas Arctic while attempting to overtake it.  Both vessels suffered damage above the waterline, but were able to proceed under their own power to Portland, England.  Both vessels will be inspected.   No reports of injuries to the 14 crew on the Gas Arctic or the 22 crew on the Spring Bok.  Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Kasuga Maru

Kasuga Maru

The 30 ton fishing vessel Kasuga Maru capsized and sank near Amami Ōshima Island, Japan.  The crew sent out a distress call before the trawler overturned in heavy seas.  The Japanese Coast Guard patrol vessel spotted the Kasuga Maru and rescued four of the six crew.   The four crew were found on two rubber boats.   Two of four crew rescued had suffered injuries to their legs caused by shark attacks.  The two remaining crewmen were reported as missing.  No further details reported.

The 146 meter long, 15441 dwt tanker Terry went aground near Kastrup, Denmark.  The tanker was proceeding in ballast from Histshals to Riga when it struck a sandbank.   A lifeboat from Kastrup was dispatched along with vessels from the Danish Navy.  The master of the Terry tested positive for alcohol and was arrested.  The investigation found the vessel struck the sandbank at full speed of 11 knots resulting with the bow of the vessel being lifted a meter into the air.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.  Divers were requested to inspect the hull for any damage.  Reports state the tanker will be later refloated by a tug.
