Volgo-Don 85

Volgo-Don 85

The 138 meter long, 5150 dwt freighter Volgo-Don 85 ran aground on the Volga River near the 2713 kilometer mark.  The Volgo-Don 85 suffered damage to its hull with a hole near the ballast tank.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Several tugs were dispatched to the area to start salvage operations.   The freighter was headed to Kavkzaz from Buzan with 4360 tons of sulfur.

Straum

Straum

The 164 meter long, 19536 dwt tanker  Straum suffered a fire in its engine room near Aukra, Norway.   The Straum was en route to Julsundet from Hustad Marmor when the fire started.  The crew was able to contain the blaze, but the fire damaged the engines leaving the tanker without power.  Rescue boats responded to the scene until a tug could take the Straum under tow.   Later the same day, a tug took the tanker under tow and proceeded to Molegard.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Aground on St. Marys River

Aground on St. Marys River

A 48 foot fishing vessel went aground on the St. Mary’s River off Neebish Island, Michigan.   The crew contacted the Coast Guard who  launched rescue vessels to the scene.   The station’s smaller craft was able to safely rescue the two crew off the fishing vessel and bring them back to shore.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.   The owners of the vessel have arranged for salvage.
