Two Ashore Off Valencia

The 118 meter long, 8250 dwt containter ship Celia and the 9742 dwt freighter BSLE Sunrise went aground near Valencia, Spain.   Both vessels had been at anchor when  a strong storm struck causing the anchors to drag until both ships were on the beach.    No reports of damage,  injuries or pollution released.    Several tugs were on scene to pull the vessels off the beach.  Reports state  initial attempts to refloat the vessels were unsuccessful.

Hao Han

The 80 meter long, 2847 dwt freighter Hao Han caught fire near Osaka, Japan.  The fire started in the cargo hold sending thick smoke into the air .   The crew fought the blaze, but were unable to contain it.  The Hao Han contacted the Japanese Coast Guard who dispatched fire fighting vessels to the scene.  The Coast Guard vessels evacuated the 12 crew on board the freighter and extinguished the fire the next day.  The vessel was taken under tow and berthed at a quay where authorities will investigate the incident further.  No reports of injuries.

Sykkylvsfjord

Sykkylvsfjord

The 64 meter long, 765 gt ro-ro ferry Sykkylvsfjord allided with the jetty near Stranda, Norway.  The wooden pier splintered from the impact send bits of wood into the air.   No reports of injuries, but many passengers on board where shocked by the loud bang of the impact.   The Sykkylvsfjord suffered damage to one of the ramp gates.   Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.  Reports states the vessel had suffered a malfunction to one of its propellers.
