Fanafjord

The 134 meter long ro-ro ferry Fanafjord allided with the pier at Sandvikvåg, Norway.   The ferry sustain some damage.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released. Reports state the on board computer had malfunctioned causing the accident.   The cause of the allision is being investigated by authorities.

Kyeema Spirit

Kyeema Spirit

The 249 meter long, 113357 dwt tanker Kyeema Spirit went aground on Aegna Island near Tallinn, Estonia.  The tanker suffered damage including a hole in a bilge tank.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.   The Kyeema Spirit was headed to Tallinn in ballast.   Three tugs were dispatched to the scene and pulled the tanker free.   A pollution prevention vessel was also on scene monitoring the situation.   Reports state the port authorities warned the tanker several times before it ran aground.  Officials have launched an investigation into the incident.

Collision off Miyagi Japan

Collision off Miyagi Japan

The 119 gross ton fishing vessel Horiei Maru collided with the 189 meter long, 45363 dwt  bulk freighter Nikkei Tiger north of Miyagi, Japan.  The Horiei Maru quickly sank after the collision.    The Japan Coast Guard was alerted from the fishing vessel’s distress signal dispatching search and rescue craft to the scene.  Nine crew of the Horiei Maru were rescued by a nearby vessel.  The remaining 13 crew on board were reported as missing.   No reports of injuries or damage on the Nikkei Tiger.
