A 55 foot long fishing vessel sank in the North Atlantic Ocean near Sable Island, Canada. The crew was able to make a rescue call before abandoning to the vessel’s life raft. A helicopter was dispatched from Halifax reaching the scene an hour later. The two crew were picked up safely. No reports of injuries. The name of the vessel was not disclosed.
The 84 meter long, 2958 dwt freighter Lona went aground near Risholmen, Denmark. The Lona was approaching the dock in high winds when it was blown off course. A tug was requested and refloated the freighter which was taken to a nearby quay. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Authorities have launched an investigation to the incident. The Lona was en route to Gothenburg from Copenhagen.
The 140 meter long container ship Hanse Courage became disabled in the Kiel Canal after passing through the Brunsbuettel locks. The Hanse Courage had suffered engine problems, but reached Fischerhutte where it requested assistance. A tug arrived on scene and assisted the Hanse Courage towards Kiel. When the vessels reached Oldenbuettel, the Hanse Courage required additional assistance with a second tug requested. The trio reached Rendsburg where the Hanse Courage berthed. The crew was able to make repairs and the container ship proceeded through the canal reaching the Baltic Sea. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
