The 190 meter long, 56824 dwt bulk freighter Trans Summer sank off Hong Kong.   The Trans Summer was at anchor with its cargo of nickle ore at an anchorage 45 miles southwest when it became overwhelmed by 15 meter waves and 90 kph winds caused by Typhoon Utor.  The bulk freighter had suffered some water ingress in the hold causing the cargo to shift and the vessel capsized and sank.

The 21 crew were able to send out a distress call before abandoning ship.  Some of the crew were able to reach the life rafts while others jump into the water as the vessel listed from 30 degrees onto its side.   Authorities dispatched two helicopters to the scene which were able to save all 21 men.   The Trans Summer was headed to China from Indonesia before it sank. No further details reported.

The 85 meter long self-propelled barge Pankgraf allided  on the Hannover-Linden Canal with a bridge at Seelze, Germany.  The Pankgraf was coming from the Mittelland canal in ballast when it struck the bridge. The Pankgraf’s wheelhouse was completely destroyed and the vessel continued to drift until it struck two other boats in the nearby marina.  Reports state damage to be at least 150,000 euros.

Pacific Queen + Coral Sea

Pacific Queen + Coral Sea

The 22 meter long fishing vessel Pacific Queen struck bottom and went aground near Petersburg, Alaska.  The Pacific Queen suffered water ingress and the crew requested assistance.  The crew of three abandoned ship and were rescued by the near by fishing vessel Windham Bay just as a Coast Guard helicopter arrived.   No reports of injuries.

The fishing vessel Coral Sea went aground off Gourd Island near Ketchikan, Alaska.  The  five crew abandoned into the vessel’s life raft and were rescued by the fishing vessel Time Bandit.
