The 141 meter long, 7025 dwt tanker VF Tanker 18 allided with a lock on the Volga – Don Canal.  The VF Tanker 18 was en route to Samara from Kavkaz in ballast when it struck the lock wall.   The tanker’s bow suffered some damage while the lock wall  sustained significant damage.  Authorities have detained the vessel while the incident is under investigation.

The 108 meter long, 3221 dwt general cargo vessel Basalt ran aground on the Volga River near the 462 kilometer mark. The Basalt was passing a passenger ship when it veered too far out of the channel and went aground.  The Basalt suffered hull damage with its ballast tanks holed.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Basalt was en route to Yaroslavl from Onezhskoye Lake with 3588 tons of gravel.  Reports state the vessel will require to be lightered before it can be refloated.

The  67 foot long, 105 gt fishing vessel Jeanoah struck a rock in the Shelikof Strait near Kodiak, Alaska.  The Jeanoah tore a hole in the hull and suffered water ingress.  The vessel alerted the Coast Guard who dispatched a MH-65 Jayhawk helicopter and the cutter Roanoke Island to the scene.    The helicopter arrived and dropped a dewatering pump.  Short time later, the cutter sent a team to assist  the Jeanoah’s crew conducting temporary repairs.  The nearby fishing vessel Katherine arrived on scene and took the Jeanoah under tow to sheltered waters escorted by the Roanoke Island.  No reports of injuries.  Reports state the vessels will proceed to Kodiak.
