The 20 meter long fishing vessel Havbåra became disabled off Myre, Norway. The Havbåra had its propeller fouled by a net and had gone adrift. The crew requested assistance with the NSSR lifeboat Knut Hoem responding.  The lifeboat took the Havbåra under tow to Myre. There divers were able to remove the net.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On January 23, the 225 meter long, 76015 dwt panamax bulk carrier Fu May ran aground while approaching the port of Santos, São Paulo, Brasil. The Fu May was en route from São Francisco do Sul to Porto de Cigading with 66,000 tons of corn when the vessel veered out of the fairway and grounded in shallow water. No injuries to the 23 crew on board or pollution released. The Fu May was refloated on the high tide with the aid of three tugs later the same day. The bulker proceeded to anchorage off Santos where it could be inspected for damage.

On January 24, the 55 meter long general cargo vessel Mentari Pratama caught fire while berthed in Surabaya, Indonesia. The vessel was docked at a repair yard when a welder’s gas cylinder exploded. Three men were injured and taken to hospital for burns. Local fire fighters were able to bring the resulting blaze under control an hour later. Part of the Mentari Pratama’s superstructure was scorched by the fire.
