The 21 meter long tugboat Sea Bear sank off Fire Island, Long Island New York.  The Sea Bear was returning to New Haven, Conn. from Shinnecock Inlet when the tug began to take on water.  The crew was just able to make a distress call to the Coast Guard before the vessel sank.  The four men on board were forced to abandon ship into the water.  Three men were in survival suits and were later rescued. The master of the vessel perished in the cold water as he was not wearing a suit. The 3 survivors were treated for hypothermia.  The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

The  double-decker ferry Aung Tagun 3 capsized and sank near Myebon, Myanmar.  The Aung Tagun 3 was headed to  Sittwe with some 209 persons on board when it was struck by heavy seas.  Survivors stated that ferry was struck by a huge wave causing the vessel to capsize. Reports state some 167 survivors were pulled from the water.  Another 34 bodies were also recovered by rescuers.

On March 11, the 75 foot long fishing vessel Hunter became disabled off Nantucket, Massachusetts. The Hunter had gone adrift after suffering a power blackout when the main engine failed. The Hunter sent out a distress call that the vessel was adrift.  The Coast Guard dispatched the Cutter Tybee which arrived on scene.  The Tybee took the Hunter under tow and proceeded slowly back to port.  The Tybee passed the tow to another vessel the following day. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
