The 222 meter long, 37,882 dwt container ship Cape Moreton caught fire while berthed at Manila, Philippines. The fire started in a group of containers containing sodium hydroxide.  Local firefighters were dispatched to help contain the blaze.  Assisted by Coast Guard vessels, the local firefighters were finally able to extinguish the fire after 9 hours. No reports of injuries.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 177 meter long, 33476 dwt bulk carrier El Condor Pas ran aground on the Bosphorus near Istanbul, Turkey. The vessel was loaded with 29000 tons of iron ore had ignored authorities warnings when it made a navigation error by making an early turn and grounding into shallow water.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  A tug was dispatched and was able to refloat the vessel a few days later.

The 9.7 tonne fishing vessel Dolgorae capsized off Chujado Island, South Korea. The vessel with 21 persons on board capsized after being caught by nets used by fish farms. The master of the Dolgorae ordered passengers to abandon ship as the fishing vessel filled with water.  Those able to escape clung to the overturn hull for 10 hours before rescuers arrived. Reports state 10 perished with another 8 reported missing.  Three survivors were flown to a nearby hospital for treatment.
