The 65 foot long former survey vessel Mamala sank on the Wishkah River in Aberdeen, Washington. The wooden-hull vessel had sunk during the night while moored in the river. No reports of injuries. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
On November 12, the 75 meter long, 2346 dwt cargo vessel Hong Yan caught fire while berthed at Kawasaki, Japan. The vessel was loaded with 600 tons of scrap metal when a fire broke out in the cargo hold. All 10 crew on board safely evacuated. No reports of injuries. Local firefighters and fire boats were called to the scene. Reports state it took over 30 hours to extinguish the blaze.
On November 12, the 110 meter long self-propelled barge Con Zelo ran aground just outside the port of Harlingen, Netherlands. The Con Zelo was proceeding to Ghent from Harlingen with a cargo of salt when it ran aground onto the shallows. Several nearby vessels including a KNRM lifeboat attempted to pull the Con Zelo free, but without success. The Con Zelo was refloated later on the rising tide. No injuries, damage or pollution released.
