The 160 meter long, 17,004 dwt LPG tanker Navigator Europa caught fire while moored at the terminal in the Houston Ship Channel. The Navigator Europa was transferring ethylene when fire broke out in the compressor room. The crew requested assistance with the Coast Guard dispatching several fire fighting vessels to the scene. The firefighting efforts were able to contain the blaze within 90 minutes.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. Authorities stopped traffic on the ship channel for several additional hours until the vessel was inspected and the surrounding area for any toxic flumes.  The Coast Guard reopen the channel to traffic later the same day. No leaks were detected. The incident is under investigation.

On December 7, the 250 meter long, 62,448 dwt container ship Hanjin Aqua ran aground off Sangiang Island, Indonesia. The Hanjin Aqua was en route to Jakarta from Adelaide, Australia with 2300 containers when it struck bottom in the Sunda Strait. The container ship had its hull scrape against the rocky bottom causing multiple ballast tanks to be breached. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 49 meter long cargo vessel Mona ran aground off Bjarkøy, Norway. The Mona was en route to  Bjarkøy when it ran onto a sand bank while attempting a navigational shortcut.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. A Coastguard vessel arrived on the scene and attempted to refloat the Mona in the rising tide, but failed to release the cargo vessel. A tug was requested and arrived on scene the following day. It was able to refloat the Mona and both vessels proceeded to a quay in Bjarkøy.
