The 65 foot long passenger ship Spirit of Kona ran ashore and later sank near the Kailua-Kona Lighthouse on the island of Hawaii. The vessel broke free as Tropical Storm Darby passed over the island. The Spirit of Kona washed up on the rocks sustaining significant damage before the vessel drifted offshore and sank. No reports of injuries as no one was on board at the time of the incident. Authorities report large chunks of floatsom and diesel fuel along the shore.  The passenger ship had some 600 gallons of diesel fuel on board along with hydraulic and lube oils. Reports state the vessel was valued over 1 million dollars (US).

On July 19, the 673 dwt cargo vessel Unilink II ran aground off  Barangay Poblacion, Naga, Philippines. The Unilink II had dropped anchor earlier that day, but the weather worsen with increased winds and waves causing the anchor to drag. The Unilink II drifted until it struck some concrete pilings and eventually ran ashore. No reports of injuries to the 19 crew on board or pollution released. The vessel was to be inspected for damage.  Authorities have detained the Unilink II until owner’s settle damages caused to the concrete piers by the incident.

The 31 meter long tugboat Thomas Dann caught fire off Marineland near Jacksonville, Florida. The crew alerted the Coast Guard that the tug was on fire.  The crew was able to decouple the tug from the barge before the blaze  force the crew to abandon ship into the vessel’s life raft. The six crew were later picked up by a nearby fishing boat. The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to the scene and was monitoring the area until a fireboat from Jacksonville could arrive on site. No reports of injuries.
