The 105 meter long cargo vessel Shizhnya ran aground on the Volga-Caspian Sea Canal near the 51 kilometer mark. The Shizhnya was en route to Astrakhan from Bandar Anzali when it went hard aground. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution release. A tug was dispatched to pull the Shizhnya free.
The 109 meter long self-propelled barge Anaconda I and barge Anaconda II ran aground on the Danube near Mühlham, Germany. The two unloaded barges had run aground on the left bank of the Danube blocking traffic on the river. Reports state the two barges were later pulled free and berthed in Passau. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
The 50 meter long ro-ro passenger vessel Fastcat M11 ran aground just outside the port of Tubigon, Bohol, Philippines. The Fastcat M11 was headed for Cebu with 69 persons on board when it struck bottom just a few minutes after leaving Tubigon. The coast guard was alerted and dispatched rescue boats to the scene. Several passengers were safely evacuated, but many decided to remain on board the Fastcat M11. The ro-ro vessel was able to refloat itself later the same day. The Fastcat M11 returned to Tubigon where it was to be inspected. The coast guard has launched an investigation into the incident.
