The 80 meter long tanker Hordafor V capsized while in drydock at the Nauta Repair Shipyard in Gdynia, Poland. The floating drydock had lost stability and rolled over on its side spilling the tanker into water. No reports of injuries. Authorities laid out booms to contain any pollution released.
The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Nawa 9 broke-in-two and sank on the Elbe at Hamburg, Germany. The Nawa 9 was loading a cargo of iron silicate near the Norder Elbe Bridge when the vessel suffered structural failure in the cargo hold.
The hull cracked and quickly flooded forcing the three crew to jump overboard. The Nawa 9 partially sank with only part of the bow and wheelhouse above water. No reports of injuries.
The local fire brigade was alerted. The brigade placed booms around the wreck to contain any pollution released. Reports state the water police halted traffic around the wreck.
On April 23, the 190 meter long, 55700 dwt bulk carrier Beatrice ran aground on the Paraná River near Rosario, Uruguay. The Beatrice had departed from Rosario en route to Salif, Yemen when it ran aground. The bulk carrier remained aground for several hours until tugs were able to pull the vessel free. The Beatrice proceeded to Puerto Paraná where it will be surveyed for damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
