The 88 meter long, 3710 dwt cargo vessel Vitin ran aground near Tonnes in Lurøy, Norway. The Vitin had run ashore during the early morning hours and stranded itself just a few meters off the shoreline. The vessel sustained damage and water ingress to a ballast tank, but there were no injuries and no pollution released. The Vitin notified authorities who dispatched a rescue boat and tug to the scene.  The tug was able to pull the Vitin free several hours later. The cargo vessel was escorted to Sandnessjøen where it can be inspected further. The cause of the grounding was not reported.

On May 22, the 63 meter long fishing vessel Ceton became disabled near Thyborøn, Denmark. The Centon had departed from Skagen when it suffered damage to its main engine. The crew attempted repairs, but were unable to get the engine working. Adrift, the trawler finally requested assistance on May 26.  The nearby DSRS lifeboat was dispatched to the scene, but found it was unable to take the large trawler under tow. A tug was dispatched and proceeded back to Thyborøn. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On May 25, a fire broke out on the 80 meter long self-propelled barge Admiral while moored on the Elbe River at Roßdamm, Germany. The Admiral had been moored at Roßdamm a few days when a fire broke out in the vessel’s galley. Nearby witnesses reported seeing smoke billowing out from the vessel and alerted authorities. Local fire brigade arrived on scene and found the bow cabin engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able later to contain the fire and soon after extinguish it.

The sole person on board the vessel perished in the fire. Authorities state the person may not been able to escape before succumbing to the smoke. The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.
