On July 7, the 194 meter long, 18602 dwt bulk carrier Ojibway caught fire on Lake Huron at Sarnia, Ontario. The fire started in the vessel’s galley and quickly intensified. Local fire fighters were requested and were able to extinguish the blaze a short time later. No reports of injuries to the 24 crew, but one fire fighter sustained injuries and taken to hospital for treatment. Reports state the Ojibway sustained damage around $100,000 (Canadian Dollars).

The 207 meter long, 34183 dwt container ship APL Jeddah allided with a quay at Hong Kong, China. The APL Jeddah had arrived at Kaohsiung Port 58 and was being assisted to the pier by a pilot when it suffered a power loss. The APL Jeddah’s bow struck the pier resulting in damage to the pier and boxship.

The bulbous bow sustained a significant dent while the pier had a section destroyed. No reports of injuries and no pollution was reported.

The 170 meter long, 33609 dwt tanker Argent Cosmos ran aground on the Columbia River near Skamokawa, Washington. The Argent Cosmos was headed to China from Clatskanie, Oregon with a cargo of 1.6 million gallons of ethanol and 6.6 million gallons of monoethylene glycol when it suffered a mechanical malfunction.

Two tugs were dispatched to assist refloating the tanker on the rising tide. The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to conduct an over flight. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Reports state the Argent Cosmos was refloated and proceeded to Longview for inspection.
