The 72 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Driade caught fire near Ischia, Italy. The Driade had departed from Naples bound for Casamicciola when a fire broke out in the engine room disabling the vessel. The fire spewed out dense plumes of smoke making it difficult to contain. The Driade contacted authorities who dispatched rescue vessels to the scene.  The Coast Guard arrived a short time later and transferred 12 passsengers off the Driade. Two passengers suffered injuries and later taken to hospital for treatment. The Driade crew were able to contain the blaze and a tug took the ferry under tow back to Naples.

On December 4, the 54 meter long coastal tanker Qi Cheng Xian Feng ran aground and sank near the north dyke of the Yangtze River Estuary. The tanker had run aground at low tide and sustained multiple hull breaches. With the rising tide, the Qi Cheng Xian Feng later sank by the stern.  All 9 crew on board were able to abandon ship and rescued by authorities. No reports of injuries. No reports if the Qi Cheng Xian Feng has released any pollution.

The 55 meter long self-propelled crane-barge Status Quo II ran aground on the Weser River near Hameln, Germany. The crane had run up onto a concrete dam and was unable to free itself. The crew contacted the authorities who dispatched tugs to the scene. The tugs arrived the following day and pulled the Status Quo II free. No reports of injuries.
