The 169 meter long bulk carrier Ourania collided with another cargo vessel in the Gulf of Finland near the Kalbådagrund Lighthouse, Finland. The Ourania was proceeding to Ashdod from St. Petersburg when it’s bow struck into the stern of the undisclosed cargo vessel. The Ourania sustained a hull breach above the waterline, but there were no injuries or pollution was released. Reports state the Ourania and the other vessel were running westbound when the undisclosed vessel slowed down in ice. The Finish Coast Guard dispatched vessels to monitor the area.

The 40 meter long, 650 dwt fishing vessel Migdale became disabled off Foula Shetland while en route to Stromness. The fish carrier had suffered damage to a control rod to its propeller disabling the Migdale. Adrift in heavy swells, the crew requested assistance.  The RNLI responded and dispatched a lifeboat from Aith Voe to the scene. The lifeboat took the Migdale under tow and proceeded to St. Magnus Bay, Shetland. There an emergency tug took over the tow and proceeded to Aith Voe anchorage. No reports of injuries or pollution release.  Reports state the Migdale will arrange a tow with another tug to be taken to a shipyard for repairs.

On February 11, the 12 meter long fishing vessel Alley Cat ran aground at Hobie Beach near Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The Alley Cat had been fishing mackerel when it went ashore on the rocks. Witnesses reported the vessel to NSRI who dispatched a lifeboat to the scene. The lifebout found all nine crew of the the Alley Cat safe. Reports state the NSRI help remove fuel off the Alley Cat while the crew removed equipment and personal items off the vessel.  The Alley Cat was reported to be refloated on the following high tide. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
