On February 6, the 73 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Talo ran aground on the Elbe River near Coswig, Germany. The Talo was proceeding with 1000 tons of urea when it’s rudder became fouled. Unable to steer the Talo ran aground near the riverbank.

Authorities were alerted and surveyed the barge for damage. A lighter was dispatched to the scene.  The Talo was unloaded and refloated the following day. Reports state the Talo was towed to a shipyard in Aken for repairs. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

On February 3, the 65 meter long,1241 dwt cargo vessel Tallas ran aground off Zeytinburnu, Turkey. The Tallas was unmanned and at anchored in the Marmara Sea when a storm caused its anchor to drag. Strong winds pushed the Tallas ashore. No injuries and no pollution released.  Reports state the vessel had no fuel on board at the time.

On February 3, the 99 meter long cargo vessel Shun An Lun caught fire off Zhoushan, China while en route to Fuzhou from Shanghai. The fire started in the engine room and quickly spread through the vessel’s superstructure. The crew was able to request for assistance before escaping the blaze by escaping to the forecastle.  The 11 crew waited in the forecastle until search and rescue vessels arrived a short time later. No reports of injuries.

Authorities were able to contain the blaze by the next day. Reports state the vessel will be towed back to a nearby port.
