On the morning of October 26, the 91 meter long, 778 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Samsø (IMO: 9548562) allided with a quay at Kalundborg, Denmark. The Samsø was arriving from a voyage from Ballen when it approached its berth in Kalundborg. Just before it reached the berth, a door for walking passengers was opened prematurely and struck a fender on the quay. The door caught the fender causing damage to the door’s hinges and pulled the fender sideways.

The Samsø cancelled several sailings until repair work on the door could be completed and inspected by the Danish Maritime Authority. Reports state the vessel was able to proceed on its scheduled voyage later that afternoon. No reports of injuries and no pollution released.

Alphenaar

On the morning of October 24, the 90 meter long self-propelled container barge Alphenaar (MMSI: 244059204) allided with the railway bridge over the Gouwe River near Gouda, Netherlands. The Alphenaar became wedged under the bridge as it attempted to pass underneath. The Alphenaar was able to free itself and added some additional ballast water to help lower the barge in the water. The vessel then proceeded safely under the bridge. Authorities detained the Alphenaar when it reach the lock to the Hollandsche Ijssel. Train traffic was halted near Gouda until engineers could investigate the damage to the bridge.

Reports state traffic resumed on the bridge a few hours later.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released on the Alphenaar.
