On the morning of November 23, the 190 meter long, 56569 dwt bulk carrier Kiran America (IMO: 9491264) became disabled on the Bosphorus Strait off Kanlıca, Turkey. Various conflicting reports state the Kiran America had either suffered rudder failure or had gone adrift due to strong winds by a storm. The result was the bulk carrier found itself just meters from the shoreline and aground. Reports state the vessel was able to make a last minute maneuver and avoided stranding.

Authorities dispatched tugboats to assist the Kiran America.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
