On the night of December 11, the 333 meter long, 103,235 dwt container ship YM Unicorn (IMO: 9462732) ran aground off the lighthouse at the entrance to port of Keelung, Taiwan. The YM Unicorn was entering the port of Keelung from Kaohsiung when it veered off course and went aground. The container ship sustained hull damage to its fore-peak tank resulting in water ingress. Authorities dispatched four tugs to assist in refloating the YM Unicorn. The tugs were able to pull the container ship free within 20 minutes and escorted it to its berth. Reports state the vessel undergo repairs before continuing a voyage to Los Angeles, California.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

On the morning of December 11, the 161 meter long, 24935 dwt cargo vessel BBC Iceland (IMO: 9605906) allided with boardwalk in the port of Veracruz, Mexico. Strong northerly winds caused the BBC Iceland‘s bow mooring lines to break. The cargo vessel drifted until the bow struck the boardwalk and a small tour boat docked along the boardwalk. Authorities dispatched four tugs to slowly push back the cargo vessel to its berth. No reports of injuries.

Navigation was closed at the port of Veracruz as strong winds had reached gusts up to 110 kilometers per hour. Authorities stated there was only minor damage to the boardwalk and the BBC Iceland.

On the morning of December 9, the 29 tonne fishing vessel Geungwang collided with a 456 tonne barge in the Sea of Japan six kilometers off the coast of Gyeongju, South Korea. The Geungwang capsized after the collision trapping the eight crew on board. The Korea Coast Guard was alerted and dispatched 15 vessels and 6 helicopters to conduct a search and rescue operation. Divers were deployed and found seven persons inside the overturned fishing vessel. They would be recovered and taken to hospital where they were pronounced deceased. One member of the Geungwang crew is still reported as missing. Reports state there were no injures among the 10 crew onboard the barge. No further details reported.
