On the afternoon of April 2, the 86 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Nicky (IMO: 9496484) was in a collision on Scheldt-Rhine Canal with the 110 meter long self-propelled barge Volturno (MSSI: 244660954) just outside of the Kreekrak Locks in Reimerswaal, Netherlands. The Volturno‘s bow struck the Nicky hull amidships. The Nicky‘s port hull was holed above the water line while the bow of the Volturno suffered bow damage. No reports of pollution released.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. There has been no disclosure if anyone was injured from the incident. The Nicky remained berthed near the locks while the Volturno proceed to berth in Antwerp.

Ningyuan Beilun

On the early morning hours of April 2, the 129 meter long, 8470 gt bulk carrier Jianghai Zhida 66 (MMSI: 413530020) collided with the 136 meter long, 15496 dwt container ship Ningyuan Beilun (MMSI: 413609370) in the Yellow Sea near Yangmao Island, Ningbo, China. The Ningyuan Beilun departed from Ningbo with 934 containers struck the Jianghai Zhida 66 resulting in only minor damage to the Ningyuan Beilun. However, the Jianghai Zhida 66 sustained severe hull damage and uncontrolled water ingress on the bulk carrier. The water ingress was so great that the Jianghai Zhida 66 sank only five minutes after the collision throwing its 13 crew into the sea.

Ningbo authorities launched a search and rescue collision soon after the bulk carrier sank. Rescuers were able to pull 9 crew from the water uninjured.  However, 3 other crew were found injured and taken to hospital for treatment.  Authorities found one crew member had perished from the incident and recovered the body from the sea.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The Ningyuan Beilun proceed to the Zhoushan Anchorage while the incident is being investigated. Reports state the Jianghai Zhida 66 was heading to load cargo at Ningbo for a voyage to Jiangyin. Authorities have not stated if any pollution has appeared over the site where the bulk carrier sank.

On the evening of March 31, the 95 meter long self-propelled passenger ship Junker Jörg (MMSI: 211513910) collided with the 106 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Argonaut (MMSI: 205527390) in the Oder Lagoon near Chełminek Island, Poland. The Argonaut was bound from Szczecin to Swinoujscie in ballast when it struck by the Junker Jörg.  The Argonaut sustained bow hull damage above the waterline, but there was no water ingress and no pollution was released.  The Junker Jörg sustained significant bow damage above the waterline.  Both vessels proceeded to Szczecin where the vessels docked.

Reports state 9 of the 97 passengers were injured with one requiring hospitalization from head injuries. Authorities launched an investigation into the incident. Both crews were tested for alcohol which return negative results. The Junker Jörg will undergo repairs and put back into service.
