On the late night of August 3, the 110 meter long self-propelled barge Triangle (MMSI: 244710133) caught fire on theMarkermeer near Oostvaardersdijk, Lelystad, Netherlands. The Triangle was en route to Schokkerhaven when a fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room. The fire produced large amounts of smoke and could not be extinguished by the 6 crew on board. The Triangle requested assistance with the local fire brigade along with the KNRM responding. Several fire engines along with a KNRM lifeboat arrived on site to help fight the blaze. Their combined effort had the fire extinguished in just a short period of time.

Reports stated the fire had caused damage to the engine room and there was initial concern the engine would be inoperable.  However, the Triangle was able to proceed under its own power a few hours later.  Authorities did not state if any there were any injuries caused by the incident. The cause of the fire has not been released.

On August 4, a fishing boat capsized in the Arabian Sea off the Kapu Lighthouse south of Udupi, India. The fishing vessel had departed from Malpe with 7 crew when it lost stability from the strong  waves. The fishing vessel overturned with the crew thrown into the sea. Fortunately, nearby fishermen were able to come to their aid and rescued all 7 crew members. No reports of inquires.  The name and details of the fishing vessel was not disclosed. No further details reported.

On the night of August 3, the fishing vessel Ishikawa Maru capsized fishing boat in the Seto Inland Sea some 18 kilometers southeast of the southern tip of Cape Motoyama near Onoda City, Japan. The Ishikawa Maru had been fishing with 2 persons on board, the master of the vessel and his wife, when it was struck by another vessel during the night. The collision caused the  Ishikawa Maru to rollover and capsize sending both people on board into the water.

When the Ishikawa Maru had to arrived back to port at its usual time, a member of the fishing cooperative alerted authorities.  The Japanese Coast Guard launched a search and rescue operation in the area and found the captain clinging to the bottom of the overturn fishing vessel. He had sustained minor injuries. The Coast Guard also found his wife, but reports state she had perished.

The Japanese Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident. The incident is being classified as a hit-and-run. An inspection of the Ishikawa Maru hull show signs of collision marks.
