On the morning of October 30, the 25 meter long fishing vessel Carrabassett (MMSI: 368154980) caught fire in Buzzards Bay while berthed at Fairhaven, Massachusetts.  Reports state the fire was started by welders working in the bow of the vessel. The workers attempted to put out the flames using a fire extinguisher without success. The local fire fighters were called out and were able to bring the blaze under control an hour later.

The extent of damage to the vessel’s bow was not disclosed, but there is some speculation the Carrabassett is a total loss. No reports of injuries.

 

Collision at Terneuzen

On the morning of October 9, the 105 meter long self-propelled barge France (MMSI:205331090) collided with the self-propelled barge Ben Gus (MMSI:205384890) on the Western Scheldt in the Westbuitenhaven off Terneuzen, Netherlands. The France was locked into the Westbuitenhaven bound for Antwerp when it collided with the Ben Gus.  The France sustained hull damage with water ingress. No reports of injuries on either vessel.

Reports state tugs assisted both the Ben Gus and France to moorings. Divers were requested and made repairs to the France hull while the Ben Gus cargo was unloaded to another vessel. No reports of pollution released.

 

Collision off Thuận An

On the afternoon of October 7, the 79 meter long cargo vessel Thuan Trung 08 (MMSI: 574402283) collided with the fishing vessel TH 96239 TS in the South China Sea some 8 nautical miles off the Thuận An estuary in Vietnam. The Thuan Trung 08 had departed from Binh Dinh bound for Thanh Hoat when it struck the TH 96239 TS causing the fishing vessel to sink. Three of the 4 crew members on board the TH 96239 TS would be rescued and brought ashore. One crew member was reported as missing with Vietnamese mobilizing a search and rescue operation.
