On the afternoon of September 8, the 133 meter long, 9000 dwt cargo vessel Eco Triumph (IMO: 9938717) became disabled on the Kiel Canal near Dükerswisch, Germany. The Eco Triumph was bound to Świnoujście from Cape Town with a cargo of turbine blades when it suffered engine failure. Authorities dispatched tugs to tow the cargo vessel back to Brunsbüttel. Reports state the vessel will be allowed to proceed to Kiel only if accompanied by a tug, but the vessel was last reported still at Brunsbüttel on September 10. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

 

Elina B

On September 5, the 196 meter long, 58480 dwt bulk carrier Elina B (IMO: 9577446) became disabled in the Dardanelles near Sarıçay, Turkey. The Elina B was headed to Gemlik from Singapore when it suffered a machine failure and went adrift. Authorities were notified and dispatched the KEGM tug Kurtarma 18 (IMO: 9974890) and Kurtarma 20 (IMO: 9995117) to assist.  The tugs were able to establish a towline and proceeded to an anchorage at Karanlı Limanı. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Excellence Baroness

On the night of August 4, the 110 meter long self-propelled passenger ship Excellence Baroness (MMSI: 211498150) allided on the IJssel River near Zutphen, Netherlands. The Excellence Baroness was headed to Basel from Lelystad when it struck the Oude Ijssel Bridge.  The railings on the upper deck were damage as it contacted the underside of the railway bridge. Authorities closed rail traffic between Arnhem and Zutphen so that the bridge could be inspected for damage.  Authorities also detained the Excellence Baroness as the vessel also need inspection before it could continue on it’s journey. There were no reports of injuries and no pollution released.
