On the morning of October 7, the 172 meter long, 23,023 dwt container ship EA Gannet (IMO: 9937476) allided with the lock wall of the new south lock in Brunsbüttel, Germany. The boxship was leaving the lock when it struck the lock wall. The EA Gannet had some slight damage as some paint scraped off the hull. No reports of the extent of damage to the lock wall. After an inspection, the EA Gannet was allowed to proceed on its voyage from Rotterdam to Helsinki. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
Esenkiyi

On September 16, the 26 meter long, 126 gt tugboat Esenkiyi (IMO: 7434858) became disabled in the Dardanelles near Çanakkale, Turkey. The Esenkiyi was enroute to Bodrum from Ordu with a barge under tow when it suffered a power blackout and engine failure. The tug contacted authorities who dispatched the tugs Kurtarma 15 and Türkeli to assist. The tugs took the Esenkiyi and the barge under tow to Şevketiye where it dropped anchor. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
Everwin Star II

On August 27, the 70 meter long, 1,500 dwt cargo vessel Everwin Star II (IMO: 9140279) suffered an explosion while berthed in Tondo, Manila, Philippines. Reports state the explosion occurred during cargo loading when a spark ignited paint and LPG tanks stored in a forward compartment. The explosion and resulting fire took several hours for local fire fighters to extinguish. No details reported of the extent of damage to the Everwin Star II.
One crewman perished in the explosion while two other crew members sustained burns and later taken to hospital for treatment. Local police and fire authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
