The ferry Mill Bay will be retired from service after it allided with the dock at Brentwood Bay, British Columbia. The allision left the ferry with a crack along the hull above the waterline. After inspection, the ferry repair required the part of the hull to be cut out and replaced. The ferry Mill Bay will be replaced by the ferry Klitsa which will continue service accross Saanich Inlet starting June 1.
Fishing Vessel 94709 QN Disabled
The fishing vessel 94709 QN was reported disabled and adrift near the Spratly Islands (11 15 N 114 35 E). The vessel suffered engine damage leaving the 32 crewmen without power. The 94709 QN distress message was received by Vietnam Center for Maritime Search and Rescue. The master of the 94709QN suggested beaching the vessel. No further details reported.
Flinterfortune Allision
The 4500 dwt freighter Flinterfortune allided with the gate of the northern Brunsbuettel Lock. The Flinterfortune suffered damage to the forepeak bulwark and railing. The lock’s gate was left inoperable with damage to the hydraulic system. The Flinterfortune was sailing from Scandinavia bound for England. No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
