The 237 meter long, 47121 dwt container vessel MSC Nederland collided with the 245 meter long, 101970 dwt chemical tanker Elka Apollon on the Houston Ship Channel near light 75. The collision sent three containers off the Nederland onto the deck of the tanker. One container containing tractor equipment has leaked hydraulic oil onto the deck of the Elka Apollon. No reports of injuries. The Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident.
Horizon Tacoma
The 217 meter long, 20668 dwt container ship Horizon Tacoma became disabled off Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The Horizon Tacoma lost propulsion and was dropped anchor until the crew was able to complete temporary repairs. Several tugs were sent to provide assistance as the Horizon Tacoma proceeded to Puget Sound. Coast Guard Inspectors are conducting an investigation into the cause of the incident. No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
Hudson River Capsize
A 31 foot long tugboat capsized on the Hudson River off New York, New York sending one crewman into the water. The tugboat was attempting to line up with a work barge when it capsized. Two crewmen were able to jump onto the work barge while one man was thrown into the water. The crewman was quickly pulled out of the water from another nearby tugboat. The vessel drifted down river before sinking off Pier 84. The man pulled from the water suffered minor injuries. The cause for the vessel to capsize is still unknown. Authorities are conducting an investigation.
