Islay Trader

October 8, 2017 | Grounding

The 75 meter long, 2386 dwt cargo vessel Islay Trader ran aground near Margate Harbour, Kent, England. The Islay Trader loaded with a cargo of broken glass had dragged its anchor during the early morning hours. The cargo vessel drifted ashore ended up just 30 meters off the shoreline. No reports of injuries to the 6 crew on board.

Authorities were alerted who arrived on scene a short time later. An inspection found the vessel’s hull was undamaged and no fuel was released. The owners of the Islay Trader coordinated with the Dover Coastguard to salvage the vessel. A tug arrived on scene and was able to refloat the Islay Trader on the rising tide. The Islay Trader proceeded on its voyage to Antwerp.

ITT Panther

July 21, 2017 | Capsize, Sank

On July 20, the 65 meter long, 1207 dwt cargo vessel ITT Panther sank in the Bay of Bengal off Diglipur, Andaman Islands. While proceeding from Kolkata in heavy seas, the cargo vessel suffered a cargo shift. The 11 crew on board abandoned ship as the developed a heavy list. All the crew were able to reach vessel’s life raft before the ITT Panther capsized and sank.

Indian authorities dispatched 2 coast guard vessels to the scene. The 11 crew were rescued 10 hours later by the Indian Coast Guard ship Rajkamal. No reports of injuries. Reports state the ITT Panther had been carrying miscellaneous cargo including 500 tons of sand, 200 tons of steel along with 29 containers

Ingvild

June 27, 2017 | Grounding

The 99 meter long, 4418 dwt cargo vessel Ingvild ran aground near Florø, Norway. The vessel had been proceeding at full speed when it ran into the shallows. A tug was dispatched and was able to pull the Ingvild free a few hours later. No reports of injuries to the 15 crew, damage or pollution released. Local reports state many vessels have run aground in the area before.
