The 88 meter long, 3818 dwt cargo vessel Isla Bartolome ran aground off the coast of Isla Puna, Ecuador. The Isla Bartolome had departed from Guayaquil bound for the Galapagos Islands with 160 containers when it struck a reef. The vessel sustained multiple hull breaches allowing uncontrolled water ingress causing the vessel to develop a strong list to starboard. The crew of the Isla Bartolome sent out a distress call before abandoning ship as they feared the cargo vessel would capsize.

Authorities dispatched rescued boats and tugs to the scene. They found the Isla Bartolome in bad shape, but found the fuel tanks had not ruptured and no pollution in the water. No reports if the Isla Bartolome will be salvaged or scrapped.

The grounding of the Isla Bartolome has impacted the citizens living on the Galapagos Islands.  Authorities will airlift supplies and perishable food to the island.

On January 17, the 10 meter long fishing vessel Ingrid Elisabeth F41P ran aground off Makkaur Lighthouse near Båtsfjord, Norway. The fishing vessel had suffered engine failure amidst a severe storm. With no power, the crew alerted authorities and requested assistance.  with gusts reaching 40 meters per second, the Ingrid Elisabeth was pushed by the storm towards shore until it wedged between two rocks just off the coast.  A Sea King helicopter arrived on scene, but conditions were too rough and was unable to rescue the crew. A  lifeboat, rescue boat and nearby trawlers arrived on scene, but were also unable to reach the Ingrid Elisabeth. The two crew on the Ingrid Elisabeth donned survival suits and abandoned ship before the fishing vessel finally sank. Reports state the two crewmen were able to reach shore and were in good condition. Both men were later taken to Båtsfjord.

On September 23, the 80 meter long self-propelled barge Ilaria ran aground on the Danube near Mülham, Germany. The Ilaria was headed to Straubing from Vilshofen with 811 tons of quartz sand when it veered off course after a navigation mistake. The barge struck hard aground at the bow. No reports of injuries.  An initial attempt by a pusher tug to refloat the Ilaria failed. A few days later the self-propelled barge Raphaela arrived on scene and lightered part of the cargo of quartz sand. No reports of pollution released.
