The 85 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Idris caught fire on the Merwede Canal while berthed at Gorinchem, Netherlands.  The fire started in the living quarters of the vessel.  Smoke was spotted and the local fire brigade responded to the scene.  Fire fighters were able to extinguish the blaze. Fire damage was limited to the living quarters.  No injuries as no one was on board the Idris at the time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Inseiner

The 70 foot long fishing vessel Inseiner became disabled in the Pacific Ocean near Depoe Bay, Oregon. The Inseiner had sent out a distress call that the fishing vessel was taking on water and was in need of assistance.  The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter and the 47 foot Motor Lifeboat from Depoe Bay to the scene.  The helicopter arrived first and dropped a dewatering pump. The Lifeboat arrived a short time later with another pump. The Lifeboat escorted the Inseiner to Yaquina Bay.  No reports of injuries to the 2 crew on board.  Reports state the weather conditions were rough with 8 foot swells and a strong winds.

Inez Andreas

Inez Andreas

On January 13, the 67 meter long towboat Inez Andreas along with its barges allided with a railroad bridge over the Mississippi River at Vicksburg, Mississippi. The towboat lost two barges that broke free. One of these barges later sank.  Authorities closed traffic on the bridge until it could be inspected.  The barge that sank did not pose any hazard for traffic. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
