The 110 meter long self-propelled barge Julien allided with the bridge over the Waal River at Nijmegen, Netherlands. The Julien was en route to Germany with a cargo of coal when it lost its rudder and went adrift. The barge drifted until it crashed into one of the pillars of the bridge.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. Reports state that river traffic was not blocked and train traffic over the bridge was allowed, but only at a reduced speed. Authorities have launched a search for the rudder and have started an investigation into the incident.

The 15 meter long work barge Josva caught fire off Kristiansand, Norway. The fire broke out in the engine room while the vessel was between Herøya and Stokken. The fire disabled the engine and the two crew on board abandoned ship. A nearby sailboat rescued the two crew and were taken ashore.  Local firefighters were ferried to the vessel assisted by a NSSR lifeboat. Reports state the vessel’s superstructure was completely gutted. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

Jamie Marie

The 80 foot long fishing vessel Jamie Marie ran aground off Ocean Shores, Washington. Reports state the vessel had run into difficulty while returning to port with a cargo of hake and went ashore on the beach.  The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to the scene and found the vessel was in no danger. The Jamie Marie was later refloated by two tugs on the following high tide. No reports of injuries, damages or pollution released.
