Jeric Jay Aground

The 493 dwt freighter Jeric Jay went aground on Nato Port, Carmarines Sur, Philippines.  The vessel was at anchor when large waves and a strong current pulled the vessel into shallow water.  The Coast Guard detachment was sent to the scene who secured the Jeric Jay to prevent further damage.

Jochenstein Aground

The 180 meter long self-propelled barge Jochenstein with a second barge in tow went aground on the Danube River near Pfelling, Germany.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.  Both vessels were loaded with a cargo of iron ore.

Johan Hjort

The 65 meter long, 835 dwt research vessel Johan Hjort became disabled off Alden Island near Askvoll, Norway.  The vessel suffered a complete power outage when the engines failed.   The Johan Hjort was in danger of going ashore when the crew was able to drop anchor just 250 meters off shore.  Authorities immediately deployed two Norwegian naval vessels to the scene.  The frigate Thor Heyerdahl took the Johan Hjort under tow to Bergen, Norway.  There were no injuries of the 25 crew on board.
