Kiel Canal Collision

On April 22, the 100 meter long, 2779 dwt car carrier City Of Amsterdam collided with the 151 meter long, 13000 dwt container ship Conmar Bay on the Kiel Canal near Breiholz, Germany. The City Of Amsterdam was headed west from Gdansk while the Conmar Bay was headed east from Rotterdam for Helsinki.  At the 48 kilometer mark, the City Of Amsterdam had stopped to allow the Conmar Bay to pass, but the car carrier drifted into the passing container ship. The two vessels bumped with the City Of Amsterdam sustained a 50 meter long gash along its hull some 15 meter above the waterline. The Conmar Bay sustained damaged just to several containers on its port side.

The Conmar Bay proceeded on to Kiel. The City Of Amsterdam proceeded to Rendsburg escorted by a tug. The water police initial investigation and found that strong winds had caused the collision. No reports of injuries and no pollution was released.

Kevin

The 11 meter long fishing vessel Kevin became disabled off Yttersia near Ramberg, Norway. The Kevin had suffered engine failure and went adrift. The crew requested assistance with the NSSR lifeboat responding. The lifeboat took the Kevin under tow and proceeded to Ballstad. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Kure Harbour

The 190 meter long, 55832 dwt bulk carrier Kure Harbour ran aground in Placentia Bay near Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada. The Kure Harbour was lifting its anchor when strong winds caused the bulk carrier to be pushed aground. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

A Canadian Coast Guard vessel was on site and a pollution response team was headed to the scene. Multiple tugs were also on scene and have attached towlines to the bulk carrier. The tugs plan to pull the Kure Harbour free on the next high tide.

Reports state the vessel was in good shape and no reports of water ingress. The Kure Harbour had some 580 tonnes of fuel oil on board at the time of the grounding.
