The 86 meter long, 1489 dwt tanker-barge Landegge went aground on the Ijssel River near Olst, Netherlands. The Landegge loaded with 1000 metric tons of benzol became stuck due to the low water levels. River traffic was halted as another tanker was brought to the scene so the cargo could be lightered. Later that day a tug was able to pull the Landegge free and towed it further down river where lightering will continue. No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
Lakshadweep Sea
Two vessels encountered bad weather near Amini Island while sailing Lakshadweep Sea. The 160 ton Al Akther had just unloaded a cargo of produce on Amini Island when it departed to pick up cargo from another island. The Al Akther had six crewmen on board when it was reported missing. No trace of the vessel has been found while rescue boats look for survivors. Another vessel, the Al Faisal, was also sailing in the area near the Al Akther. The Al Faisal got caught in the same rough seas and was able to keep the vessel from capsizing by tossing overboard most of its cargo. Reports state the crew of the Al Faisal were later rescued.
Lien Cheng Yi 26
The fishing vessel Lien Cheng Yi 26 caught fire off Iwo Jima, Japan (25 57N 141 00E). The vessel sent out a distress signal and the Japan Coast Guard dispatched helicopters to the scene. The helicopters reported finding all 12 crewman all safe in the lifeboat. The Lien Cheng Yi 26 was still emitting smoke and was adrift. No reports of injuries.
