On August 21, the 80 meter long, 2647 dwt cargo vessel MY Zeynep (IMO: 9701906) became disabled on the Dardanelles near Nara Burnu, Turkey. The MY Zeynep was headed to Romania from Greece when it suffered a mechanical failure and lost power.  The vessel requested assistance with Turkish authorities dispatching the tug Kurtarma-19 (IMO: 9995129).  The tug took the cargo vessel under tow and proceeded to the Şevketiye anchorage. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Mañón Un

On August 19, the 13 meter long, 11.8 GT wooden fishing vessel Mañón Un (CFR: ESP000021719) sank at the entrance of the Cedeira estuary near Cedeira, Spain. The 4 crew members on board sent out a distress call that the vessel was sinking after it sprung a leak.  Spanish authorities responded by dispatching the 7.5 meter long search and rescue vessel LS Percebiño and requested nearby fishing vessels to assist.  The 4 crew would be rescued by the LS Percebiño and transported back to port.  One crew member was taken to hospital for undisclosed injuries.

The 18 meter long fishing vessel Bedía (MMSI: 224055790) arrived in the area a short time later and confirmed the Mañón Un had foundered. Authorities state the fishing vessel is sunk at a depth of 36 meters of water. The LS Percebiño had been delivered to Cedeira Red Cross just one day before the incident.

Maly

On the early morning of August 16, the 91.7 meter long, 3842 dwt tanker Maly (IMO: 9301691) and a 24 ton cargo vessel caught fire in the Sea of Japan while moored off Yeosu, South Korea. The Maly was loaded with 2,500 tons of a hazardous chemicals categorized as C5 along with 100 tons of fuel oil when a fire broke out.  The blaze quickly spread to the smaller moored cargo vessel.  The Coast Guard mobilized 15 vessels and one fireboat to fight the fire. Reports state the Coast Guard was able to extinguish the blaze on the cargo vessel within a few hours, but it would take 6 hours before the fire would be extinguished on the tanker.

Reports state that all 14 crew were rescued off the Maly, but 2 crew suffered minor injuries.  One of the 4 crew members on the cargo vessel perished during the incident.

The South Korean Coast Guard has not disclosed the name of the cargo vessel. Reports state the Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident and the extent of damage caused by the fire.
