On the night of November 27, the fishing vessel NT 90329 TS capsized in the South China Sea off the coast of Binh Tien, Vietnam. The NT 90329 TS was heading back to port with 5 people onboard in hopes to avoid the approaching storm No. 15.  Before the vessel could reach the shore, the NT 90329 TS would capsized and sank some 300 meters from the shore.  Two of the crew members were able to swim ashore, but 3 others were initially reported as missing.

Vietnam authorities, assisted by local fishing boats, mobilized a search and rescue for the missing crew. On the afternoon of November 28, authorities recovered the body of one of the missing crew members. Worsening conditions has hampered efforts as the authorities expanded the search area.

 

Nora

On October 27, reports state the fishing vessel Nora ran aground in Miller Bay near Indianola, Washington. The Nora had been at anchor when it broke free of its anchor and went ashore. The vessel had some 2,000 to 3,000 gallons of fuel and petroleum products on board the vessel when it grounded. Authorities from multiple state and federal agencies responded to the scene. Local authorities were able to secure the vessel with stern anchor lines to prevent the Nora from drifting further ashore or damage nearby seawalls.  A salvage company was hired to remove the fuel and oil products. Officials will monitor for any pollution releases. There were no reports of individuals on board the Nora and no injuries from the incident.
News accounts state the Nora as a derelict and authorities were determining the owner of the fishing vessel. It was not clear when the Nora would be removed off the shoreline and if the vessel would be salvaged or just scrapped.

Nominoë

On the late morning of October 21, the 21 meter long fishing vessel Nominoë (IMO: 8663468) caught fire in the Bay of Seine off the coast of Normandie, France. The fire started in the vessel’s engine room and was quickly contained by the 4 crew on board. Unable to extinguish the blaze, the vessel sent out a distress call which was received by the Jobourg Regional Operational Surveillance and Rescue Center (CROSS).

Authorities dispatched a French Naval helicopter along with the 17 meter long patrol vessel Philippe Kieffer (MMSI: 228210810). The Philippe Kieffer arrived on scene and safely evacuated 3 crew off the Nominoë leaving only the captain onboard the fishing vessel. The naval helicopter airlifted 3 firefighters from Cherbourg to the Nominoë who were able to extinguish the blaze later that afternoon.  No reports of injuries.

The Nominoë sustained significant damage to the engine room and was unable to proceed under its own power, but the hull remained intact. The 107 gt fishing vessel Dieppois (IMO: 8676362) was dispatched and took the Nominoë under tow to Dieppe. The cause of the fire was not disclosed.
