Nordic Porto

On the morning of November 16, the 158 meter long, 14230 dwt container ship Nordic Porto (IMO:9448671) allided with southern lock on the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany.  The Nordic Porto was headed to Gdynia from Wilhelmshaven when it struck the vertical stabilizer on the southern lock and destroyed several nearby dolphins. Authorities had close the southern lock until the area was clear of debris. There was only slight damage to the Nordic Porto with extensive paint scrapes. There were no injuries and no pollution was released. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Reports state the southern lock had just reopened when this incident occurred.

On January 7, the 34 meter long tanker/fuel barge Nil (MMSI: 271010447) became disabled on the Sea of Marmara off Yenikapı, Istanbul. The Nil was conducting a refuel operation when it suffered engine failure. The KEGM dispatched a rescue boat and two tugboats, the 37 meter long, 472 gt Kurtarma-6 (IMO: 9463176) and the 272 gt Mehmetçik (IMO: 9816268) to assist. The Nil would safely dock at Zeyport supported by the two tugs. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Nijmegen Max

On the night of January 6, the 110 meter long self-propelled container-barge Nijmegen Max (MMSI: 244012151) ran aground on the Maas River near Roermond, Netherlands. The Nijmegen Max was leaving Roermond when it ran up on a breakwater. The bow of the vessel remained firmly stuck while the stern still in the navigation channel. Authorities halted traffic between Linne and Roermond while the barge could be salvaged.

Reports state the Nijmegen Max was able to refloat itself the following day. No reports of injuries or pollution released. This is second accident for the Nijmegen Max within a few months. On September 11, the Nijmegen Max struck the Willems Bridge on the Nieuwe Maas River.
