Oriental Angel Fire

The 106 meter long, 4456 dwt fishing processing / trawler Oriental Angel in the Bering Sea off Beringovkiy, Russia.   The fire started in the cargo hold and quickly got out of control.   The crew attempted to fight the fire with the chief mate being killed.  However, the fire quickly engulfed the entire vessel sending all the crew to the lifeboats and liferafts.  Nearby fishing vessels came to the aid and rescued the crew.  The vessel had 89 crewmen on board at the time of the incident.   Last report stated the vessel remains on fire while at anchor off Cape Navarin in stormy seas.

Ocean Tiger

The trawler Ocean Tiger became disabled near Upernavik, Greenland.  The Ocean Tiger’s main engine went dead after the turbocharger had suffered damage.   The vessel’s fire alarms went off as large amount of smoke was released in the engine room.   The Ocean Tiger’s main power supply also failed leaving the vessel dead in the water.  Another fishing vessel, Markus was nearby and was able to take the Ocean Tiger under tow.  Some 40 hours later, the two vessels arrived at Sisimiut.   No reports of injuries.   Reports state the damage is between 1.5 and 2 million Danish Crowns.

Odeon Aground

The 110 meter long self-propelled barge Odeon went aground on the Main River near Thüngersheim, Germany.  The vessel’s rudder had broken down while another vessel was passing causing the Odeon to run aground.  Another vessel was able to attach a towline and take the Odeon to the Erlabrunn Lock for repairs.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.  A report states that the damage to the vessel is roughly € 5000.
