The 116 meter long, 7014 dwt container ship Planet V became disabled while on the Westerschelde near Flushing, Netherlands after suffering an engine failure. The crew proceeded to drop an anchor when the anchor chain broke. The chain flung out and struck a nearby crewman killing him. The container ship continued to go adrift and collided with the 27 meter long tug MTS Vantage which had been proceeding on a parallel course. The MTS Vantage was damaged in the collision, but was able to proceed under its own power to Flushing. The Plant V was taken under tow and returned to Flushing.
Praga
The 58 meter long self-propelled barge Praga allided with a bridge on the Danube River near Novi Sad, Serbia. Bridge traffic was halted until inspectors determined the bridge was safe. The Praga dropped anchor nearby awaiting inspection. No reports of injuries or pollution being released. The Praga was headed downstream towards Belgrade before the incident.
Parnassos II
The 97 meter long, 4470 dwt freighter Parnassos II ran aground near Itea, Greece. The Parnassos II had just left the port of Saint Nikolas when it suffered engine failure causing the vessel to drift aground. The crew requested assistance with a local tug responding. The tug was able to refloat the freighter and proceeded to the Bay of Itea. The Parnassos II dropped anchor in the bay awaiting inspection for any possible damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
