Skledros Adrift

The 146 meter long, 15441 dwt tanker Skledros broke free of its mooring lines during a severe storm while berthed at Hirtshals, Denmark.  The storm’s wind pushed the vessel from the quay breaking the bollards out of the concrete.   Tugs and rescue craft were launched to get the vessel under control.  Reports state there was no one on board the vessel at the time.   No further details reported.

Silke Diane

The 103 meter long self-propelled barge Silke Diane went aground on the Waal River near Kekerdom, Netherlands.  The Silke Diane was proceeding upriver with 1700 tons of scrap metal when it struck bottom due to the low water level.   The vessel suffered damage allowing water ingress into the cargo hold and engine room.  The local fire department responded to the scene with dewatering pumps and were able to keep the Silke Diane from sinking.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.  The Silke Diane was lightered and refloated later.

Superferry 1 Aground

The 132 meter long, 2908 dwt passenger vessel Superferry 1 went aground off Ditaytayan Island, Philippines.   The Superferry 1 loaded with 618 passengers from Puerto Princesa City was close to the port at Coron when it struck a reef.  The Philippine Coast Guard was alerted and deployed two vessels to the scene.   With the aid of three other vessels, all 618 passengers were evacuated from the Superferry 1 and safely taken ashore.   Reports state the passengers are housed at the local gymnasium until a replacement vessel can arrive to take them to Manila.   The Superferry 1 has suffered a minor list, but no reports of hull damage or water ingress.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
